Laura James

For nearly 20 years, Laura James has litigated cases around the State, appearing in as many as twenty counties, three Federal Districts, numerous Texas Courts of Appeals, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Texas. Laura has appeared as an advocate in countless mediations throughout her career.  Laura’s broad range of experience includes cases involving personal injury claims, professional liability claims, business and contract disputes, partnership dissolutions, employment claims, including non-compete and non-solicit litigation, trade disputes, fiduciary litigation, probate litigation, and commercial collections. Laura began her mediation practice in 2021 and has since that time used her experience to help parties bring clarity to key dispositive issues, vetting claim weaknesses and defenses, and ultimately helping them move away from uncertainty and risk towards a place of resolution and conclusion.

During Laura’s early experience as insurance defense lawyer working for large national and international carriers, Laura learned that effective mediations allowed her to guide cases to favorable outcomes and mitigate known risks for her clients. More recently, as a commercial litigator working for mid-market oil field service and heavy construction clients in the Permian Basin and beyond, Laura learned that crafting creative resolution strategies can eliminate impediments and threats to business often posed by ongoing litigation.

Laura’s mediation approach is focused and pragmatic as she looks to maximize the value of the parties’ participation in the process, whether a litigant is facing mediation for the first time or a seasoned professional at negotiating claims. Laura hosts half-day, full-day, and multi-day mediations around the State.
